Cross-border connections are becoming closer and more intensive in the European Union. The nationally organised and oriented services of general interest are reaching their limits. This volume introduces the innovative concept of cross-border services of general interest and provides a theoretically sound basis for analysing the status and development prospects of cross-border services of general interest. The book brings together contributions with conceptual considerations and empirical analyses of the practice of cross-border cooperation in the areas of services of general interest: mobility, health, education, civil protection, energy cooperation, heat supply, spatial planning and border mobility advice. The transdisciplinary orientation of the volume promotes intra- and interregional dialogue on the design of cross-border services of general interest and offers impulses for learning and transfer processes in and between European interdependent areas.

The publication is part of the Interreg project "Research and Practice in Dialogue: How do cross-border public services and civic participation function in the Euroregion Pro Europa Viadrina?" (duration 2020-2022), which was coordinated by the Viadrina Center B/ORDERS IN MOTION (project lead Dr Peter Ulrich).
