Working Paper 13 published: "Social Rights for Ukrainian Refugees"

This paper conducts a comparative analysis of the structure and practical implementation of the Mass Influx Directive (Directive 2001/55/EC) in Poland and Germany following the Russian attack on Ukraine in February 2022. The focus of the study is primarily on the socio-economic rights set out in the Directive and transposed into national legislation, as well as their practical implementation in Poland and Germany. The project is interdisciplinary in nature, meaning that, on the one hand, the legal situation and application of the law were analysed, whilst, on the other hand, socio-empirical research was carried out through surveys of relevant stakeholders.

This article was produced as part of a voluntary research project by the Viadrina Law Clinic, carried out by four students from the German and Polish Law and Rechtswissenschaft (Law) study courses. The Viadrina Law Clinic was based at the chair of Public Law and European Social Law, which specialises in interdisciplinary social law research, under the direction of Prof. Dr Claudia Maria Hofmann and with the collaboration of Dr Tania Bazzani and Franziska Kühl.

The Working Paper Series B/ORDERS IN MOTION brings together analyses of the processes of marking, crossing, dissolving and re-establishing borders in their interplay with social orders. It draws on a general and broad concept of borders, as outlined in the profile of the Viadrina Center B/ORDERS IN MOTION. Accordingly, the contributions draw on an interdisciplinary spectrum of border studies and encompass contributions from the social and cultural sciences as well as the legal and economic sciences.
