Film screening: THE GUEST by Mohammad Ravandi
Film screening: THE GUEST by Mohammad Ravandi
On 27 May 2026, the Viadrina Center B/ORDERS IN MOTION screened the feature film THE GUEST by Iranian director Mohammad Ravandi.
THE GUEST tells the story of an Iranian family in Frankfurt (Oder) whose fragile stability is shaken when two brothers are forced to take in an unexpected guest who has fled to Germany via Belarus. Beneath the surface of a seemingly ordinary everyday life, traces of a distant unrest remain palpable - they characterise fears, silence and dealing with the unknown. A restrained and atmospheric, yet moving story about repression, survival and the invisible boundaries that determine who belongs - and who remains a guest.
In the well-attended Logensaal, the audience took the opportunity to engage in a lively discussion with the director. They discussed the conditions under which Iranian filmmakers can continue their work today, the role of Frankfurt (Oder) as the setting for the film as well as a new centre of life, but also the difficulty of acting in solidarity with refugees when this is increasingly criminalised. The evening was hosted by Carolin Leutloff-Grandits and Thomas Spicker, who initiated the film screening.
