Address: TOIZ Motorcycle Workshop, Thiemannstr. 1, Gate 4, Building 6. 12059 Berlin

As part of the ‘48 Stunden Neukölln’ arts festival 2026, Maria Klessmann from the Viadrina Center B/ORDERS IN MOTION organized the exhibition ‘BORDER IMAGES - IMAGE BORDERS’ with an interdisciplinary group comprising social and cultural scientists, art historians, visual studies scholars, curators and artists.
The exhibition stems from the publication project entitled “Staging Borders: On the Visual Representation of Nation-State Borders”, which will soon be published in the Working Paper series of the Viadrina Center B/ORDERS IN MOTION.
On display are well-known and lesser-known works of art, photographs and moving images, which are contextualised through accompanying texts to demonstrate how borders are made visible and socially mediated. In doing so, the exhibition not only highlighted diverse visual aesthetics but also explored the limits of visual representations in the context of current border regimes.
