New publication: 2nd anthology on ‘Border Complexities’

Spatialities, Temporalities and Materialities of Border Complexities, edited by Falk Bretschneider, Sylvie Grimm-Hamen, Hedwig Wagner, Carolin Leutloff-Grandits and Christian Wille. Baden-Baden: Nomos, 1st edition 2026, 292 pages. (Border Studies. Cultures, Spaces, Orders, Vol. 13). ISBN 978-3-8487-7827-0. Also available as an e-book.

This book offers readers in-depth insights into current issues surrounding borders – from historical, cultural and media-theoretical perspectives. It demonstrates how borders today must no longer be understood merely as state-imposed lines, but as complex, social and digital processes. The contributions are based on interdisciplinary workshops held across Europe and shed light on the complexity of border phenomena: from memory and imagination through to materialities and new concepts of space. The publication is aimed at researchers and those with an interest in the cultural, social and media sciences. The editors and authors are internationally active researchers in the field of Border Studies and related disciplines.
