The RESIST project investigates the rise of so-called "anti-gender" mobilisations across Europe and their consequences for feminist and LGBTQIA+ individuals and collectives. Drawing on nine case studies-including Belarus, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, and exiled communities-the project explores how these mobilisations shape everyday life, limit political participation, and challenge people's sense of belonging.
Based on interviews and focus groups with more than 250 participants, the research highlights not only the vulnerabilities created by anti-gender politics, but also the diverse ways in which people are resisting them. It shows how intersecting dynamics of gender, race, and migration status deepen exclusion, while simultaneously giving rise to new solidarities and transnational networks.
This presentation will focus particularly on the case study of exiled Kurdish-Turkish communities in Europe, led by Latife Akyüz (European University Viadrina). It examines how experiences of anti-gender politics continue in exile-through migration processes, bureaucratic hurdles, and structural racism-while also demonstrating how exiled intellectuals and activists generate new spaces of resistance, knowledge production, and solidarity across borders.
