Project description:

In her dissertation project "Constructions of Belonging by People with German Ancestry in the Opole Voivodeship: an interfamilial and intergenerational comparison“, Sara Bonin examines which categories of belonging people with German ancestry consider relevant to themselves, how they understand these categories, and how they construct their sense of belonging.

The empirical study was conducted using narrative and semi-structured interviews with 37 persons from ten families across three generations. The analysis combined membership categorization analysis (MCA), a family and generational comparison based on qualitative content analysis according to Mayring (2016), and a combination of narrative analysis methods (cf. Bamberger & Georgakopoulou 2008; Lucius-Hoene & Deppermann 2004, 2015; Wortham 2001).
