Project description:

Social public services comprise essential policy cooperation fields for the human well-being: health, public transport, education, energy supply, disaster protection and labor market-related measures. In the national peripheries of the EU member states, these policy fields are often coordinated across national borders on the regional level. Despite the high cross-border interconnectedness, still, legal, administrative and political boundaries as well as cultural, social and linguistic boundaries remain in the fields of cross-border public services and social cohesion.

The scientifically informed cooperation project “Research and Practice in Dialogue: How do cross-border public services and civic participation function in the Euroregion Pro Europa Viadrina?” aims at bringing together actors from cross-border public services (in the ambits of health, transport, education and labor market) and the civil society (citizens, associations and economy) in the Euroregion Pro Europa Viadrina. The objective of cooperation is to network, exchange and discuss potentials and boundaries of cross-border undertakings with experts and scientists from the Euroregion. In addition to the already existing networking of actors in cross-border services of general interest, the project brings these actors together with scientific experts in relevant scientific fields.

The project is funded by the Euroregion Pro Europa Viadrina (European territorial cooperation – INTERREG) and is a joined project by the Viadrina Center B/ORDERS IN MOTION and the Collegium Polonicum. In the framework of the project, field research visits with qualitative interview surveys with actors of (cross-border) services of general interest in the Euroregion Pro Europa Viadrina were carried out. The project results were presented for discussion at a final conference on March 17, 2021 (program DE, program PL) and published in a bilingual publication.

The bilingual publication has been published as a brochure in the Working Paper Series B/ORDERS IN MOTION:
